"My words are Spirit and Life, and not to be weighed by the understanding of man. They are not to be drawn forth for vain approbation, but to be heard in silence, and to be received with all humility and great affection."
Thomas à Kempis

Great Christian Works
The deep writings of some of the greatest christian authors.

"We shall find, when we reach the end of life, that all which God has done, however dark and mysterious it may have appeared at the time, was so connected with our good as to make it a proper subject of praise and thanksgiving."
Barnes

"The Lord gave the word:
great was the company of
those that published it."

Psalm 68:11

A true revival means nothing
less than a revolution,
casting out the spirit
of worldliness,
making God's love
triumph in the heart.

John Bunyan

Praying in the Spirit   By John Bunyan
Prayer is a command of God, and is to be practiced both in public and in private; yes, such a command brings those that have the spirit of prayer, into great intimacy with God; and the prevailing prayer, will receive great things from God.

J. C. Ryle

Are You Fighting?   By J. C. Ryle
It is a curious fact that there is no subject about which most people feel such deep interest as 'fighting.' Young men and maidens, old men and little children, high and low, rich and poor, learned and unlearned, all feel a deep interest in wars, battles, and fighting.

Frank Bartleman

The Seeds of Revival   By Frank Bartleman
There are many today who are foolishly pursuing the effects of revival at the expense of neglecting the conditions of revival. No harvest is ever any greater than the seeds and soil in which it was planted. To neglect the seeds of revival is to ultimately plague the fruit of revival.

Andrew Murray

Humility, The Strength Of the Lamb   By Andrew Murray
No tree can grow except on the root from which it sprang. And what is the root and essence of the character of our Redeemer? There can he but one answer: it is His humility. What is the Incarnation but His heavenly humility, His emptying Himself and becoming man? What is His life on earth but taking the form of a servant? And what is His atonement but humility? "He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." (Philippians 2:8)

E. M. Bounds

Unction   By E. M. Bounds
This unction is the art of preaching. The preacher who never had this unction never had the art of preaching. The preacher who has lost this unction has lost the art of preaching. Whatever other arts he may have and retain -- the art of sermon-making, the art of eloquence, the art of great, clear thinking, the art of pleasing an audience -- he has lost the divine art of preaching. This unction makes God's truth powerful and interesting, draws and attracts, edifies, convicts, saves.

Leonard Ravenhill

Picture of a Prophet   By Leonard Ravenhill
The prophet comes to set up that which is upset. His work is to call into line those who are out of line! He is unpopular because he opposes the popular in morality and spirituality. In a day of faceless politicians and voiceless preachers, there is not a more urgent national need than that we cry to God for a prophet!

Smith Wigglesworth

What It Means to Be Full of the Holy Ghost   By Smith Wigglesworth
"God can fill you with His Spirit and make you a chosen vessel for Himself, and promote you to a place of mighty ministry in the salvation of souls and in the healing of the sick. There is nothing impossible to a man filled with the Holy Ghost. It is beyond all human comprehension. When you are filled with the power of the Holy Ghost, God will wonderfully work wherever you go."

William Booth

A Vision Of The Lost   By William Booth
"I saw a dark and stormy ocean. Over it the black clouds hung heavily; through them every now and then vivid lightening flashed and loud thunder rolled, while the winds moaned, and the waves rose and foamed, towered and broke, only to rise and foam, tower and break again. In that ocean I thought I saw myriads of poor human beings plunging and floating, shouting and shrieking, cursing and struggling and drowning; and as they cursed and screamed they rose and shrieked again, and then some sank to rise no more."

Jonathan Edwards

How to Know if You Are a Real Christian   By Jonathan Edwards
"Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble."   James 2:19
"No matter how much people may know about God and the Bible, it is no sure sign of salvation. The devil before his fall, was one of the bright and morning stars, a flame of fire, one excelling in strength and wisdom. Suppose you were to die today. Why should God let you into his heaven? A very common response is, "I believe in God." Apparently the apostle James knew people who said the same thing: I know I am in God's favor, because I know these religious doctrines."

A Solemn Warning For All Churches   By C. H. Spurgeon
"The holy apostle, John, said of the church in Sardis, "These things saith he that hath the Seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou has a name that thou livest, and art dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die; for I have not found thy works perfect before God. Remember therefore how thou has received and heard, and hold fast and repent. "

Matthew Chapter 23   By J. C. Ryle
The whole chapter is a signal example of boldness and faithfulness in denouncing error. It is a striking proof that it is possible for the most loving heart to use the language of stern reproof. Above all it is an dreadful evidence of the guilt of unfaithful teachers. So long as the world stands, this chapter ought to be a warning and a beacon to all ministers of religion.

A. W. Pink

I am the Way, Truth Life   By A. W. Pink
"No man can come unto the Father but by Jesus. He is the only way to God. He is the full and final revelation of God. It is utterly impossible to win God's favor by any efforts of our own."

Jonathan Edwards

Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God   By Jonathan Edwards
"That the reason why they are not fallen already, and do not fall now, is only that God's appointed time is not come. For it is said, that when that due time, or appointed time comes, their foot shall slide. Then they shall be left to fall, as they are inclined by their own weight. God will not hold them up in these slippery places any longer, but will let them go; and then at that very instant, they shall fall into destruction; as he that stands on such slippery declining ground, on the edge of a pit, he cannot stand alone, when he is let go he immediately falls and is lost."

T. Austin-Sparks

"Nor... the Smell of Fire..."   By T. Austin-Sparks
"How wonderfully above the situation these three men were! With the prospect of the trial, with the threat over their heads, how utterly careless about answering the king! "We have no need to answer thee in this matter." There was a settled confidence of heart, the outcome of an integrity of life and walk before God. "

George Mueller

Real Faith   By George Mueller
"What is Faith?   "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear" (Hebrews 11:1)."

Jonathan Edwards

Signs of True Revival   By Jonathan Edwards
When we look at anything that is happening in the religious world, and need to pass judgment, the first question we must ask is "Are these people coming to love, honor, and esteem the real Lord Jesus more than ever?" If people are being convinced of their need of Christ and led to Him; if their belief that Christ appeared in history is strengthened; if they are more convinced than ever that He is the Son of God sent to save sinners; if they acknowledge that He is the only Savior and they need Him desperately; if they appreciate Him more than they did, and love Him too, then we may be quite sure that it is the Holy Spirit who is at work!
