Seven Things Doth The Lord Hate
"These six things doth the Lord hate:
yea, seven are an abomination unto him:" Proverbs 6:16-19
1. A proud look,
"Pride goeth before destruction, and an
haughty spirit before a fall.
Better it is to be of an humble spirit with
the lowly, than to divide the spoil
with the proud."
"...God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace
unto the humble."
"The Lord will destroy the house of the
proud: but he will establish the border
of the widow."
"When pride cometh, then cometh shame:
but with the lowly is wisdom."
"The fear of the Lord is to hate evil:
pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way,
and the froward mouth, do I hate."
"An high look, and a proud heart, and the
plowing of the wicked, is sin."
"Though the Lord be high, yet hath he
respect unto the lowly:
but the proud he knoweth afar off."
2. A lying tongue,
"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the
abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers,
and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall
have their part in the lake which burneth with
fire and brimstone: which is the second death."
"The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a
vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death."
"A false witness shall not be unpunished, and
he that speaketh lies shall perish."
"Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord
his trust, and respecteth not the proud,
nor such as turn aside to lies."
3. And hands that shed innocent blood,
"Thou shalt not kill."
"Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man
shall his blood be shed: for in the image
of God made he man."
"Cursed be he that taketh reward to slay
an innocent person...."
"Whosoever hateth his brother is a
murderer: and ye know that no murderer
hath eternal life abiding in him."
"Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings,
and such like: of the which I tell you before,
as I have also told you in the past,
that they which do such things shall not
inherit the kingdom of God."
4. An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,
"Because that, when they knew God, they
glorified him not as God, neither were thankful;
but became vain in their imaginations, and
their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing themselves to be wise,
they became fools...."
"How long will ye imagine mischief
against a man? ye shall be slain all of you:
as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a
tottering fence."
"And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless,
the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you
imagine evil against his brother in your heart."
"And let none of you imagine evil in your
hearts against your neighbour; and love no
false oath: for all these are things that I hate,
saith the Lord."
5. Feet that be swift in running to mischief,
"Their feet are swift to shed blood:
Destruction and misery are in their ways:
And the way of peace have they not known:
There is no fear of God before their eyes."
"My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou
not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay
wait ..., let us lurk privily for the
innocent without cause:..Cast in thy lot
among us; let us all have one purse:
My son, walk not thou in the way with
them; refrain thy foot from their path:
For their feet run to evil, and make haste to
shed blood."
"Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy
ways be established."
6. A false witness that speaketh lies,
"Thou shalt not bear false witness
against thy neighbour."
"A false witness shall not be
unpunished, and he that speaketh
lies shall perish."
"A man that beareth false witness
against his neighbour is a maul, and a
sword, and a sharp arrow."
"A faithful witness will not lie: but a
false witness will utter lies."
"Thou shalt not raise a false report:
put not thine hand with the wicked to
be an unrighteous witness."
"Keep thee far from a false matter; and
the innocent and righteous slay thee not:
for I will not justify the wicked."
"An ungodly witness scorneth judgment:
and the mouth of the wicked
devoureth iniquity."
7. And he that soweth discord among brethren.
"Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth
mischief continually; he soweth discord.
Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly;
suddenly shall he be broken without remedy."
"An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his
lips there is as a burning fire.
A froward man soweth strife:
and a whisperer separateth chief friends."
"He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but
he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends."
"The words of a talebearer are as wounds,
and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly."
"A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a
faithful spirit concealeth the matter."
"Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out:;
so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth."
So these are the seven things God hates.
Who of us are guiltless?
"For whosoever shall keep the whole law,
and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all."
"Be not deceived; God is not mocked:
for whatsoever a man soweth,
that shall he also reap."
"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief
in the night; in the which the heavens shall
pass away with a great noise, and the elements
shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and
the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Seeing then that all these things shall be
dissolved, what manner of persons ought
ye to be in all holy conversation and
godliness..."
