Scripture has much to say about knowledge, both profitable knowledge, "...put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:" Colossians 3:10, and unprofitable knowledge, "Having a form of godliness... Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth" II Timothy 3:5 & 7.
The only knowledge that is profitable to man, is the knowledge of God. Through this knowledge alone do we live and have life eternal. "According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust" 2 Peter 1:3-4.
God has instilled in man a desire to know and worship his creator. However, men have preverted the knowledge of the Almighty and have chosen rather to worship Self. "...they did not like to retain God in their knowledge," "...and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator," Romans 1:25 & 28. (Read all of Romans chpt. 1)
The prophet Hosea cried out, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee..." Hosea 4:6. Though men continue to seek knowledge, they are not interested in truth. "Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." II Timothy 3:7.
Jesus rebuked the so called preachers of His day, "And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness, An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law" Romans 2:19-20. They had nothing more than a form of the true knowledge of God. They were pretenders, false guides, hirelings, they were wolves in sheeps clothing, all because they rejected true knowledge.
Truth gives and takes, "If my people... ...I will..." The truth will cost a man everything, but in return, gives everything. "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it" Mark 8:35.
The church today has little to no fear of God. She is full of adultry, violence and corruption. Scripture says to have the "fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge..." Proverbs 1:7. "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." Proverbs 9:10. The church is in the condition she is in becuase she has rejected the knowledge of God, and has instead built gymnasiums and mega-churches to play and satisfy Self. She is no longer interested in a holy God nor does she fear His judgment.
Paul said to the Thessalonians, "...for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness" II Thessalonians 2:11-12. No, God is not talking about the world, but the church who has rejected the knowledge of God!
The solution is simple, "My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God" Proverbs 2:1-5.
When the church begins to cry out to God for His knowledge and turn from her wicked ways, God will restore unto her the glory and power she once knew in the days of great men and great revivals annointed of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus simple says, "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full" John 15:4-11.
Now, more than ever before, it is time to seek the knowledge of the Lord. "Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you." Hosea 10:13. The church must rise up in holiness through the knowledge of God Almighty and once again be the true body of Christ.
